GraphColl: Basics

GraphColl produces collocation tables and graphs for every search. This article covers how to carry out an initial search on GraphColl. This process involves selecting the appropriate settings for your search which will be discussed below.

 1) Select the appropriate settings for the collocation search:

i) Corpus and Subcorpus: Select a corpus by clicking on the corpus name in the left corner. The drop down box to the right of this allows the user to select a subcorpus.

ii) Unit: This is the unit (e.g. word, part of speech (POS), lemma, lexeme) used for the collocate search.

iii) Span: Finally, the two drop down boxes in the top right corner of the window allow users to change the span of the search. This setting determines how many words to the left (L) and right of the node (search term) are included in the collocate analysis. The default setting is L5, R5.

2) Type the search term into the search box and the top of the window (Search query) and press Enter.

3) This will produce a collocation table in the left panel and a collocation graph on the right.
