Working with Subcorpora

LancsBox X allows users to restrict searches to specific parts of a corpus by defining subcorpora. Subcorpora can be defined and used with any tool in #LancsBox X. In order to define a new subcorpus, click the dropdown menu as shown below. This section allows users to select a subcorpus based on established categories within the corpus, or create a new subcorpus based on specific criteria defined by the user. To create your own subcorpus, select ‘new subcorpus’.

This will bring up an overlay with a range of criteria which can be used to define a subcorpus. Please note that the options available in this menu are dependent on the metadata included in the corpus used.

Users can select a range of restrictions to define a new subcorpus. Turning on the autofilter button will prevent users from creating subcorpora with 0 tokens. When this option is enabled, any options that would result in an empty corpus are removed. Once restrictions are added, a name will automatically be generated at the top of the page. This name can be edited or changed by clicking in the text box. Clicking ‘OK’ in the bottom right corner of the screen will save the new subcorpus and return the user to their previously opened tool. The subcorpus can now be selected from the dropdown menu as shown in the first image in this article. Subcorpora can be edited or deleted by selecting the edit or delete icon in this menu (shown below).
